General Horsemanship & Lessons
The General Horsemanship programs include:
- Important safety skills for interacting with and riding horses
- General knowledge on the care and behavior of horses
- Identifying and using various pieces of tack and equipment
- Riding lessons for riders of all abilities
T.H.E. FARM offers horseback riding lessons to people of all abilities and is open to all members of the public. There are no age restrictions in our “therapeutic” program. Able-bodied clients must be at least seven years old in order to participate in our horseback riding program.
Mounted Lessons
Mounted lessons are taught astride one of our horses. Riders will be schooled according to their experience level on horse safety, control, seat, and using their aids. Skills such as balance, steering, posting and diagonals may be learned. Mounted lessons generally take place in our outdoor ring or may involve a trail ride.
Unmounted Lessons
Unmounted Lessons consist of horse training where the rider is not astride a horse. These skills include grooming, advanced grooming, tacking, tack care and maintenance and equine anatomy.

All riders MUST wear long pants (make sure they’re neither too tight to move in nor so baggy that they will bunch up around your knees), boots with a low heel, and a helmet with a chinstrap. T.H.E. FARM also has a selection of helmets you can borrow for your lesson.

Any participant needing to cancel a lesson must do so with at least 24 hours notice. You may call T.H.E. FARM at 978-851-5540 or your instructor to notify them of the cancellation. If 24 hours are not given, the particpant will be charged the full price of the lesson. Refunds will be given on a indvidual basis and at the discretion of T.H.E. FARM’s Director.
