2011/2012 Volunteer Training Manual
If you have just a few hours a week, why not support our equine programs by becoming a volunteer. Here are just some of the areas where you can help:
- Barn Chores – includes work around the barn like mucking stalls, cleaning, sweeping, restocking hay and general tasks
- Grounds & Maintenance – help with upkeep of the barn and property including fencing, paddocks, Strongwater show site, small equipment maintenance and other general seasonal tasks
- Sidewalkers – acts as a safety ‘spotter’ assisting a rider with disabilities by walking alongside while mounted on the horse. Also assists instructors wherever needed
- Leader – controls the horse during lessons working closely with the instructors
- Horse Care – includes feeders, grooms, and our special Tender Loving Care (TLC) program
- Administrative – includes help with office, helping with special events and projects such as our annual student show, and other fundraising programs
- Specialty Volunteers – whether you’re an electrician, plumber, carpenter, marketer or IT professional, we could use your help
Volunteer Age Requirements
Under age 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Age 14 or older can volunteer in the barn, grounds, events, or as a sidewalker. Volunteers must be 16 years or older to be a horse leader and over 18 to be a feeder. All volunteers must attend a new volunteer orientation training session. Remember, it’s not necessary to have experience with horses – we’ll train you as required.
